Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer says the next installment in the fantasy supernatural swashbuckler film series will reboot the entire franchise.
The legendary producer shared the update with ComicBook when asked about the future of his hit franchises Top Gun and Pirates of the Caribbean. “It’s hard to tell. You don’t know, you really don’t know,” Bruckheimer explained, referring to which may return to the big screen first. “You don’t know how they come together. You just don’t know because, with Top Gun, you have [Tom Cruise] who is iconic and brilliant. And how many movies he does before he does Top Gun, I can’t tell you. But we’re gonna reboot Pirates, so that is easier to put together because you don’t have to wait for certain actors.”
10 Best Johnny Depp Roles
Wonka’s release has people reminiscing about Johnny Depp’s signature performance as the character, but Willy Wonka is just one of Depp’s iconic roles.
Disney is still looking for a way to repackage the smash hit franchise, with Ayo Edebiri being eyed to star in a female-led Pirates movie. The actor is reportedly the studio’s top choice to lead the cast as Anne, one of several young pirates searching for hidden treasure. Edebiri is known for her Emmy-winning performance as Sydney Adamu in the Hulu/FX series The Bear. She is also an acclaimed voice actor with roles in Big Mouth, Clone High, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.
The New Pirates Movie Has Been Plagued By Delays
A new installment of Pirates of the Caribbean has been in the works since 2011. However, the project stalled after Johnny Depp was removed due to legal troubles with his ex-wife, Amber Heard. In 2018, Disney tried to reboot the franchise with Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, but those attempts were unsuccessful. In 2020, the studio had plans for a spinoff led by Margot Robbie. Two years later, Bruckheimer revealed they were “developing two Pirates scripts — one with [Margot Robbie], one without.”
Why Paul McCartney Made A Cameo In Pirates Of The Caribbean
Paul McCartney of the British band, The Beatles, explains why he made a brief appearance in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
In Sep. 2023, The Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin confirmed that he was working on a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie. “We pitched it and thought there’s no way they’re buying it, it’s too weird. And they did!” Mazin explained. “And then he [Ted Elliot] wrote a fantastic script, and the strike happened, and everyone’s waiting around.” Ted Elliot worked on the first four Pirates films with his writing partner Terry Rossio. Moreover, rumors suggest that Disney is considering bringing back Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. However, the character would appear in a supporting role rather than as the lead.
The upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean movie has no release date yet.
