The Garfield Movie cooks up a new trailer for fans of the eponymous cat before the Sony film’s release. Predictably, it partly features Chris Pratt’s titular character chowing down on some lasagna.
On Apr. 3, Sony Pictures released the latest preview of The Garfield Movie, featuring Garfield and friends eating everything in sight. Garfield forewarns the audience while seated at a dining table that “the eating you’re about to see will not be pretty” and suggests parents should send their children away from the screen. During the 40-second clip, Garfield mashes down everything from pizza to burgers and, of course, his favorite food, lasagna.
Garfield and 9 Other Best Comic Pets, Ranked
Comic characters put a ton of work in, but everyone knows it’s pets like Garfield, Lockheed, Krypto and others who are the real stars of the show.
The Garfield Movie sees Pratt, best known for starring in the Guardians of the Galaxy film trilogy, voice Garfield in the upcoming reboot of the famed comic book character, culminating an 8-year journey for the adaptation that began development in 2016. For Pratt, it’s his latest voice role in an animated film, previously portraying Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, the second-highest-grossing film of 2023 ($1.36 million worldwide) behind Barbie.
Pratt has gotten solid feedback from fans and critics as the voice of Garfield since the first official trailer of The Garfield Movie dropped last November. According to the official synopsis, The Garfield Movie sees “the world-famous, Monday-hating, lasagna-loving indoor cat, is about to have a wild outdoor adventure! After an unexpected reunion with his long-lost father – scruffy street cat Vic – Garfield and his canine friend Odie are forced from their perfectly pampered life into joining Vic in a hilarious, high-stakes heist.”

A Star-Studded Voice Cast Is Featured in Garfield: The Movie
The Garfield Movie boasts a star-studded voice cast including Harvey Guillén (Odie) and Samuel L. Jackson (Vic), with Hannah Waddingham (Jinx), Ving Rhames (Otto), Nicholas Hoult (Jon Arbuckle) and Calvin “Snoop Dogg” Broadus (Snoop Catt) also featuring. Directed by Mark Dindal, The Garfield Movie is the first major feature-length adaptation of the Garfield character since 20th Century Fox lost the rights to the character. Garfield: The Movie, released in 2004, became a box-office hit for 20th Century Fox despite its negative critical reviews. The 2006 sequel, A Tail of Two Kitties, struggled critically and commercially, with two more follow-ups, Garfield’s Fun Fest and Garfield’s Pet Force, generating little fanfare.
Following The Garfield Movie‘s release, a video game based on the film is planned. The game is set for release later this year, though it’s unknown what it will entail or its genre.
The Garfield Movie opens in theaters on May 24, 2024.
