A high-powered package is coming together to adapt Avengelyne, the ’90s comic book character from Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld.
Olivia Wilde, who last helmed the thriller Don’t Worry Darling, is attached to direct what would be a feature adaptation. LuckyChap, the banner run by Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Josie McNamara and which shepherded last year’s biggest movie, Barbie, is producing. Simon Kinberg, who has written and produced several X-Men movies as well as the Deadpool films, will also produce. The package is being put together, with the hope that it will be ready to take to studios and streamers in the coming weeks.
Avengelyne debuted in 1995 and centered on a fallen angel cast to Earth. She is entrusted to find and protect The One, a person who is the key to protecting humanity from demons and other monsters.
Robbie, who is not attached to star in Avengelyne, is well-versed in comic having played Harley Quinn multiple DC films.
Wilde, who became well known as an actor, broke out as a director thanks to the 2019 coming of age feature Booksmart, and helmed the 2022 thriller Don’t Worry Darling, starring Florence Pugh. She is next due to direct Universal’s Naughty, which LuckyChap is also producing.
Liefeld most notably created Deadpool, which has a third installment due out in July with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman starring. Several other Liefeld creations have seen hot and heavy Hollywood interest, among them Prophet, which at one point had Extraction filmmaker Sam Hargrave and star Jake Gyllenhaal attached (the two are no longer involved).
