Warner Bros has just dropped a new poster for Todd Phillips’ upcoming psychological thriller Joker 2 aka Joker: Folie à Deux. With Joaquin Phoenix reprising his role from the first film (2019) and popstar Lady Gaga making her franchise debut, the studio also teased the date of the long-awaited trailer.
Warner Bros announces Joker 2 trailer date with new poster
Off the bat, we can tell you that Joker 2, aka Joker: Folie à Deux will see its first trailer released on April 9th in the United States. The Batman-related sequel will of course feature the likes of Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck (Joker) and for the first time, Lady Gaga as Harleen Quinzen or as she’s more likely known, Harley Quinn. Both characters can be seen in the poster seemingly dancing while wearing a suit and a dress respectively and of course their iconic clown makeup. Billed as a musical of sorts, fans will obviously be hoping to get their first test of the film’s soundtrack as well.
On the point of trivia, it’s worth noting that in the US poster – seen below – we can see a cigarette in the Joker’s hand, while in the UK version, there is none. As for the film’s content itself, Zazie Beetz who will be reprising her role as Arthur’s former neighbor Sophie Drummond, spoke to the obvious switch in genre, explaining that it “makes wonderful sense” despite the fact that it seems odd at first glance. “I wasn’t really surprised by that. Todd has always had a creative approach to the character. I love musicals, and I think of them as the characters are feeling and experiencing so much that they can only sing and dance about it, whether in sorrow or in joy,” she said.
“I can actually see that within myself as well, because singing and dancing is quite a cathartic experience for me. I was going through a really, really difficult time at one point in my life, and I just started dancing and crying by myself. And that was an expression that matched where I was at that moment. …So I can see Arthur, who is feeling and experiencing so much, dancing and singing about it. He’s the Joker, so I think it makes sense to me.” In case you didn’t know, Joker: Folie á Deux is set to hit theatres on October 4th, 2024.
