Seth MacFarlane, the creative force behind the popular animated series Family Guy, has shared his long-standing desire to develop a feature film based on the show.
Speaking at Paley Fest LA—marking the 25th anniversary of the series—MacFarlane revealed that he’s had a concept for a Family Guy movie in mind for the past 15 years.
Despite his enthusiasm, he admitted that finding time for such a project is challenging.
Hulu to launch new ‘Family Guy’ holiday specials
In addition to the movie announcement, MacFarlane also disclosed plans for two exclusive Family Guy episodes on Hulu.
In an interview with TheWrap, he said, “It’ll be our Halloween and our Christmas episodes, I expect.”
He further reiterated his belief in the show’s continued relevance, stating: “It’s still surviving and thriving. It still has a sizable audience and is a perfect example of there being an appetite for something.”
Macfarlane assured fans of ‘Family Guy’s continued run
Despite his film aspirations, MacFarlane remains committed to the TV series. The show recently concluded its 22nd season and is set to return for a 23rd.
In discussions about the future of Family Guy, MacFarlane assured fans that he has no plans to end the series soon.
He stated that its continuation largely depends on viewer demand, remarking in an interview with the L.A. Times, “I don’t see a good reason to stop. People still love it.”
‘Family Guy’s journey: From cancelation to resurgence
Family Guy, which first aired on Fox in 1999, was canceled in 2002 due to low ratings. However, its success on DVD led to a revival in 2005, and has remained a mainstay on Fox since then.
The show features the Griffin family and their talking pet dog Brian, with voice performances by MacFarlane himself and actors including Alex Borstein, Seth Green, and Mila Kunis.

Meanwhile, the cast also marked its 25th anniversary with a lively celebration on Friday—including a live table read of the upcoming episode titled The Edible Arrangement.
This episode sees Lois and Stewie forming an unexpected bond after indulging in some of Brian’s weed-infused gummies.
Interestingly, it also features the first instance of Lois hearing Stewie speak, prompting him to reveal his past plot to murder her.
Additionally, the celebration included nine musical performances of classics from the series.
