Deadpool & Wolverine Trailer Breaks One Record No One Believed Likely in the MCU

April 25, 20244 Mins Read

Summary

  • Deadpool & Wolverine
breaks the MCU record for most swear words in a trailer, bringing a new level of vulgarity to Marvel.
  • Hugh Jackman returns as Wolverine in the red band trailer, packing in 6 F-bombs, shaking up the family-friendly MCU.
  • Deadpool & Wolverine
promises to be a refreshing and successful installment, surpassing previous records for R-rated movies.

Deadpool & Wolverine broke records with its first trailer, and now it’s done it again with its second – but not in the same way. Having been mostly squeaky clean for the last 16 years, the MCU is about to get a rude awakening when the Merc With a Mouth brings his F-bomb filled shenanigans to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and changes it forever. That has been proven by the second trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine breaking the unlikely record for the most swear words used in a Marvel trailer ever – breaking the previous record jointly held by…you guessed it, Deadpool and Deadpool 2.

The new Deadpool & Wolverine trailer delivered the first real look at Hugh Jackman back in action as Wolverine, and living up to its red band status, the 2 minutes 38 seconds long trailer packs in no less than 6 F-bombs – more than the entire MCU count of full or cut-off F-bombs to date, as per LadBible. Before the arrival of Deadpool & Wolverine, despite some near misses, there has only been one use of the swear word in full to have made it into the franchise – in last year’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Deadpool & Wolverine is Likely to Set Several New Records This Summer

When it comes to R-rated superhero trailblazers, it is always smart to put your money on Deadpool being front and center. Having already made a name for himself with two massively successful movies, Ryan Reynolds‘ character is now yanking Hugh Jackman into his obscene world to great effect.

Deadpool & Wolverine has set out its stall as a very different movie to any that have come before it in the Marvel franchise. Spanning several universes, bringing back long-lost characters, and promising to tie together many branches of the sprawling MCU, there are a number of records just begging to be broken by the movie this summer.

Having been allowed the creative freedom to deliver the movie he wanted, Ryan Reynolds, together with Jackman and director Shawn Levy, are poised to deliver one of the franchise’s biggest earners of the last several years, and potentially one of the highest-grossing R-rated movies of all-time. It is a feat that many have attempted, and many have failed at. It is clear from the reaction to its trailers, that Deadpool & Wolverine is setting itself up to be a lot of things, but a failure is not one of them.

Wolverine is back in Deadpool & Wolverine… but is it really that simple?

The initial trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine was the most-watched movie trailer within 24 hours ever. It is fully expected that the movie will surpass the highest-grossing movie in both the Deadpool and Wolverine franchises. Deadpool 2 currently holds the top spot with $786.3 million worldwide, while Logan, Jackman’s original last solo outing as Wolverine, garnered $614.2 million. If the movie really finds its audience in the way it is expected to, then it could also pass the $1.078 billion taken by Joker in 2019 to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie in cinema history.

There are likely to be further trailers and teasers of what is to come, but there are many surprises that Levy, Reynolds, and Jackman don’t want people to see until the movie hits cinemas in July. Despite having just one movie release this year, Marvel Studios is going to reap the rewards of finally bringing Deadpool into the MCU all guns blazing, and everyone is going to have a blast watching it happen.
