Mahershala Ali’s Blade reboot comes to life in a new Marvel Cinematic Universe fan trailer. As the MCU movie timeline is expanding with new heroes and villains, Marvel Studios is also getting ready to reboot Blade for their franchise. Set to feature Ali as the titular hero, Blade will be the second time to feature a live-action incarnation of the character on the big-screen after Wesley Snipes’ series of films in the late 1990s/early 2000s.
While the Blade movie is still being developed, fans are still imagining what the reboot will be like as part of the MCU. One of them is Teaser Pro, who recently shared a fan trailer for Ali’s film, labeling it Blade: Hidden World, pitching their idea for what the reboot could explore with the character.
The Blade: Hidden World fan trailer showcases the story tackling the existence of vampires in the MCU, with Ali trying to protect humanity from them. While he is seen briefly, Jared Leto’s Morbius is also spotted, proposing him potentially as one of the main villains in the hypothetical Blade scenario.
5 Things Blade’s MCU Reboot Must Keep From The Original Movies (& 5 It Needs To Change)
Mahershala Ali will play Blade in the MCU – we run down what Marvel should either keep or change from the Wesley Snipes Blade movies.
Why Marvel’s Blade Movie Has Been Delayed So Many Times
The Film Was First Announced In 2019
The Blade reboot was announced all the way back at San Diego Comic-Con as Kevin Feige brought out Ali onto the Hall H stage, revealing that he would be playing the iconic superhero. However, it has been almost five years since the initial Hall H announcement and yet the Blade reboot has ended up being one of the few MCU projects to be stuck in development hell. The initial delay for Blade began after they lost Bassam Tariq as the director, citing the movie’s shift in production.
However, the delays would only get worse from there, as Marvel Studios had reportedly not been able to land on a creative vision that Ali was happy with, as the screenplay had undergone multiple rewrites. At this point, Stacy Amma Osei-Kuffour, Beau DeMayo, Michael Starrbury, Nic Pizzolatto, and Michael Green have each taken a crack at the Blade script, while Yann Demange is set to direct the reboot. If things go according to plan, the Blade movie cast will reportedly start production sometime this fall.
It will be interesting to see if any of the story details for the past Blade drafts will ever emerge, as it would be fascinating to see what each writer had in mind in their version. If there is one takeaway from the Blade fan trailer, it is that it shouldn’t be too difficult to craft a good plot for Marvel’s half-vampire. Hopefully, there will be more Blade updates in the coming months, as production gets closer to finally happening.
