The film is due on May 22nd, 2026
Sigourney Weaver is in talks to star in the upcoming Star Wars film, The Mandalorian & Grogu.
Word of Weaver’s involvement became public on Friday, first reported by The InSneider newsletter. Currently, her role and its scope are unknown, but given Weaver’s track record for starring in sci-fi hits, the casting feels appropriate.
The Mandalorian & Grogu was first announced this past January, and will see Pedro Pascal reprise the titular role that he originated with the 2019 Disney+ series The Mandalorian. N0w, making the jump to the big screen, the film will expand upon the show’s universe (which also spurred the spinoff series Ahsoka).
Jon Favreau, creator of The Mandalorian, will return to direct the film, which also marks the first feature-length Star Wars release since 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy and chief creative officer Dave Filoni will produce, as will Favreau. It is expected to premiere on May 22nd, 2026.
The Season 3 finale of The Mandalorian premiered in April 2023, and the future of the show is uncertain beyond the upcoming film. Though a fourth season seems like it’s still possible, Consequence’s Liz Shannon Miller highlighted that the third season’s final episode “plays very much like a series finale.”
Additionally, it’s still unknown how exactly Pascal’s character, Din Djarin, will play into the new movie, with the actor’s upcoming filming schedule looking tight as he’ll begin filming The Fantastic Four for Marvel Studios in July.
As for Weaver, she reprised her role as Dr. Grace Augustine for 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water, and starred opposite Joel Edgerton in Paul Schrader’s Master Gardener.
