    movie.

    Mandalorian
    movies.

With Daisy Ridley‘s return to the Star Wars universe officially confirmed, the actress has named the co-star she desperately wants to re-unite with in the new movie. Ridley first played Rey, a force-sensitive orphan, in Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens in 2015, re-igniting the franchise in the modern era. Ridley appeared alongside John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, which saw the rise and the fall of the First Order.

In a recent interview with THR, Ridley was asked if she’d like to re-unite with her former co-star, John Boyega, who played Finn (a reformed Stormtrooper) for her next movie in the franchise. Ridley’s response was an overwhelming, “absolutely, of course.” The actress then stated that it would feel natural working alongside Boyega in the Star Wars universe again, saying: “it feels like we should, yeah.”

Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens

This isn’t the first time Ridley has addressed re-uniting with her former co-stars for the new movie. Speaking to Variety earlier this year, the actress was asked if any of her fellow Star Wars alumni would be making an appearance in Rey’s new film. Ridley’s response was honest and optimistic, saying: “No, because I don’t know what is what, or who is who [in the new movie].” The actress continued,

“So much has happened for me [since the Skywalker saga]. I feel like a grown-up now. When I first started, I was, like, 20. I was the youngest on set. It took me the first two Star Wars films to feel worthy of being there. Now I’m in my 30s. The whole thing feels quite different. I’ve been able to work with other filmmakers, and hopefully, I’ve got better as a performer.”

When Is the Next Star Wars Movie Coming Out?

While the sequel trilogy was ongoing, it felt like you couldn’t go a single week without hearing of a new project in the Star Wars universe, however, following the mixed reception to the sequels, and some of the latest Disney+ series, Disney has slowed down the Star Wars machine. The upcoming slate of new Star Wars movies has undergone some major changes recently, with projects being canceled, then re-commissioned, leaving some fans confused.

Sigourney Weaver Reportedly in Talks to Play a ‘Key Role’ in The Mandalorian & Grogu

Should talks come to fruition and Sigourney Weaver be cast in the next Star Wars movie, this will be her first appearance in the franchise.

First is the aforementioned standalone Rey ‘Skywalker’ movie. The project hasn’t got a release date yet, but Ridley is confirmed to be returning (it wouldn’t be much of a Rey movie without her). The film is set after The Rise of Skywalker, and follows Rey as she attempts to rebuild the Jedi Order. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is on board to direct. Following on from the sequels, there is also a new Star Wars trilogy in the works, with the first slated movie releasing in May, 2026 (this is subject to change). No plot, cast, or directorial details have been confirmed yet.

One of th biggest upcoming projects moves away from the Skywalker story, and follows The Mandalorian & Grogu, in a spin-off movie from the immensely successful Disney+ series. The film is also scheduled to release in May 2026 (one of the May releases will likely be changed), and will lead the newest slate of Star Wars movies for a new generation. Several other major directors are still tapped to direct new movies in the franchise. Long-time Star Wars collaborator Dave Filoni is finally overseeing a live-action movie, after years of working on the franchise’s animated shows. Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy is also tapped for a new Star Wars movie, as is Logan director James Mangold, and Thor: Ragnarök director, Taika Waititi – whose Star Wars film was rumored to be canceled multiple times.
