Dolly Parton Announces New Symphony Concert Series ‘Threads: My Songs In Symphony’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Dolly Parton has announced a new “multimedia symphonic story-telling experience” concert series, titled “Dolly Parton’s Threads: My Songs in Symphony,” that will reimagine some of her biggest hits.

“Bringing the genius, music, life and legacy of Dolly Parton to symphonic audiences is an honor for us,” Robert Thompson, president of Schirmer Theatrical, a co-producer of the project, said. “Audiences will hear for the first time Dolly’s songs performed by orchestras worldwide in this innovative symphonic storytelling experience.”

“Threads” is described as “an innovative multimedia experience featuring Dolly on screen, leading audiences in a visual-musical journey of her songs, her life, and her stories.”

“Accompanied by guest vocalists and musicians hand-picked by Dolly herself, audiences will hear new and innovative orchestrations of her hit songs, including ‘Jolene,’ ‘Coat Of Many Colors,’ and ‘I Will Always Love You,’ in addition to her personal favorites and an as-yet unreleased selection from her upcoming Broadway musical,” the description continued.

“I’m just so excited to share my songs and the stories behind them in this beautiful new way,” Parton said in a statement about the show. “‘Threads: My Songs in Symphony’ is like a journey through the heartstrings of my life. I hope we can take it far and wide to symphony orchestras everywhere.”

“Dolly Parton’s Threads: My Songs in Symphony” will kick off in Nashville with the city’s symphony on March 20, 2025, with dates in other cities planned.

Parton shared that she was done with touring in a 2022 interview with Pollstar but added, “I do know I’ll do special shows here and there, now and then. Maybe do a long weekend of shows, or just a few shows at a festival. But I have no intention of going on a full-blown tour anymore. I’ve done that my whole life, and it takes so much time and energy.”

She may have retired from touring, but Parton has no plans to slow down. Movieguide® previously reported:

Dolly Parton shared that the one thing that would cause her to retire would be the decline in health of her or her husband, Carl Thomas Dean.

“Work is everything to me,” Parton told USA Today. “That’s all I know. It’s what I do. It’s how all these things have come to pass… I felt like [songwriting] was my gift, but I love to sing too, and I love to perform. So it’s all just one thing to me.”

“I would only retire if I was ill or if my husband was ill and needed me,” Parton added. “That’d be the only thing that would make me pull back.”
