The cicadas continue to hum right along, and Hollywood news is picking up its own rhythm heading into the summer months.  Time for a round-up!

Paramount+ will no longer proceed with a Dungeons & Dragons live-action series, according to Deadline.  This comes almost a year and a half after Paramount acquired the eight-episode series, which was to be co-produced by Hasbro (see “’D&D’ Series Ordered“).  Hasbro plans a creative update before shopping the series, according to the report.

Chris Hemsworth is in talks with Paramount for the lead role in a Transformers – G.I. Joe crossover film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  The new movie, which was previously announced (see “Transformers-G.I. Joe Crossover Film“), will follow up on the events of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (see “‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’ Trailers“).

Netflix and Mojang Studios are developing a Minecraft animated series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  Wildbrain, the studio that helped bring Sonic Prime (see “‘Sonic Prime’“) to life, will provide the animation for the new series.

Amazon MGM has cast Nicholas Galitzine to play He-Man in the upcoming Masters of the Universe film, according to Variety.  Galitzine is an English actor who played a lead role opposite Julianne Moore in Mary and George, recently released on Starz, and for his roles in teen films Bottoms, High Strung and Handsome Devil.  This casting decision represents some significant movement on this movie, which had started out at Netflix (see “‘MotU’ Live-Action Feature Dead“) and moved to Amazon MGM in November 2023 (see “‘MOTU’ Movie to Amazon“).

Netflix released an Umbrella Academy Season 4 trailer (see below).  This series will begin streaming on August 8, 2024 (see “Netflix Unveils 2024 Slate“).

Disney launched a teaser trailer for Moana 2 (see below).  Moana 2, starring the Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (see “Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson“), heads to theaters on November 27, 2024.
