I still remember watching Ishaqzaade and hating Arjun Kapoor’s character after he betrays Parineeti’s Zoya in the film.

But later, when I discovered Abbas Mustan’s filmography, it opened up a whole other dimension of films that were copied from Hollywood but were made so apt for Indian audiences.

I am a sucker for good thrillers filled with twists and turns and here are some Bollywood films that surprise me to date even when I have watched them a gazillion times.

8 betrayals in Bollywood films we didn’t see coming from miles away

1. Maya in Bodyguard

This Salman Khan-led romantic drama also starred Hazel Keech, where she played Maya, Kareena’s friend, in the film.

Salman and Kareena’s characters never meet throughout the film and due to unfortunate circumstances in the climax, Chaaya (Kareena) sends her best friend to tell Lovely Singh (Salman Khan) the truth, but instead, she lies and pretends to be Chhaya.

She keeps this secret and discloses the truth on her deathbed.

2. Vikram and Nita in Ajnabee

In the 2001 film Ajnabee, Nita (Bipasha Basu) fakes her death by planning it with her husband Vikram (Akshay Kumar).

They do it to deceive their neighbours, played by Kareena and Bobby Deol.

3. Ajay Sharma in Baazigar

Baazigar was a career-defining film for Shah Rukh Khan, in which he played the double role of Ajay Sharma and Vicky Malhotra, who traps Shilpa Shetty’s character and kills her.

We get to know that he was doing all this to seek vengeance for his father’s humiliating death.

4. Karan in Humraaz

Akshaye Khanna played Karan in Humraaz, who is always looking to score a big fortune without working hard.

He devises a plan to trap a successful businessman with his girlfriend, played by Ameesha Patel but does he succeed? Watch the film to know more.

5. Yaatharth’s masterplan in Dhokha: Round D Corner

This fast-paced yet underrated thriller stars R. Madhavan, Khushali Kumar, and Aparshakti Khurrana in the lead roles and follows a woman, who is trapped in her flat with a terrorist and is risking her all.

By the climax, finds out that it was all her husband Yaatharth’s plan, a character nailed by R Madhavan.

6. Sofia in Race

This high-octane thriller was directed by Abbas Mustan and starred Saif Ali Khan, Katrina Kaif, Bipasha Basu, and Akshaye Khanna in the lead roles.

In the film, we see Katrina’s character getting romantically involved with Saif, only to discover that she was laying down a trap from the beginning.

7. Mahalakshmi in Khakee

I was shocked to see when Aishwarya’s Mahalakshmi dumped Akshay and ran to Ajay Devgn’s character in Khakee.

8. Ram arrests Bheem in RRR

We see Ram searching for Bheem till the intermission in RRR, but the heat turns up when he decides to arrest his own friend.

Even Bheem was not expecting that his friend Ram would arrest him, but it made for a highly entertaining pre-interval fight.
