R&B singer also portrays a pop star in the upcoming cat-and-mouse serial killer movie that takes place at a concert
Saleka, the R&B-singing daughter of director M. Night Shyamalan, has shared the song “Release” as Lady Raven, the pop star she portrays in her dad’s upcoming cat-and-mouse serial killer movie Trap.
In the film, Josh Hartnett plays a father/murderer who, with his young daughter, attends a Lady Raven concert, only to find out the police know the serial killer dubbed “the Butcher” is in attendance and have concocted the titular “trap” to catch him.
Saleka — whose music previously appeared on the soundtracks for her father’s Servant and Old —penned a handful of original songs from Trap, including the piano ballad “Release,” which is the first Saleka-as-Lady Raven track released from the film, out August 9. Trap also marks Saleka’s first time appearing in one of M. Night Shyamalan’s films, though he has directed one of her music videos.
“Am I safer?/Hiding from the damage done/Is it braver?/To fight back or let it come,” Saleka’s pop star sings on the track. “I reach for nothing/Cry tears for something that never will come my way/Can I keep the love but release us from the pain?”
Along with Hartnett and Saleka, Trap also stars Ariel Donoghue, Hayley Mills, and Allison Pill. “Release” also features in the latest preview for the movie:
