Longlegs writer and director Osgood Perkins gives fans an idea of what to expect from the upcoming horror film. He says Nicolas Cage is “unrecognizable” in the leading role.
Per Screen Rant, Perkins opened up about Cage’s performance and appearance during an interview with SFX Magazine. “We derived the voice of the character, the look of the character, the attitude,” Perkins said. “What references is Nic going to use in terms of people in his life or other actors?”

“He’s very upfront that he pulls from other people a lot,” Perkins continued. “So which other person is he going to do? By the time he gets to the set he’s unrecognizable. He doesn’t sound like himself, he doesn’t walk like himself. So you have this element, like wind or fire, but it’s Nicolas Cage as your character.”
Longlegs is set to star Cage as the titular serial killer, who will be pursued throughout the film by Maika Monroe’s FBI Agent Lee Harker. As seen in the film’s debut trailer, Longlegs will follow Agent Harker as she uncovers the occult rituals at the heart of Longlegs’ killings, all while Cage’s grungy serial killer prepares for his next axe-wielding outing.

In November 2023, Cage discussed his desire to step away from the silver screen and spend more time with family, including his infant daughter, ahead of his milestone 60th birthday in January. “I’d like to read a book a week,” Cage said. “I want to spend more time with my daughter. I’m taking stock of what’s really important. Maybe not make quite as many movies. [Having a baby girl is] profound… I love it.”
Nicolas Cage Might Transition to the Small Screen
Only a month later, Cage touched on the idea of transitioning to the small screen for future roles. As Cage explain, “I like to keep mixing it up. I don’t want to get stuck in any genre or any performance style. I want to do it all.” Cage added, “I think I have to do maybe three or four more movies before I can get there, and then hopefully switch formats and go into some other way of expressing my acting.”
Longlegs is set to arrive in theaters on July 12, 2024.
