The South Canterbury section of the New Zealand Alpine Club is hosting the Banff Mountain Film Festival Tour, playing a selection of seven films from the Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival.
The festival has been running since 1976. After it ends, the annual world tour reaches more than 40 countries, making it the largest adventure film tour on the planet.
From about 375 films entered in the annual festival, the best are chosen for the world tour.
This year’s tour features a collection of the most inspiring action, environmental, cultural and adventure films.
The New Zealand programme has more than two hours of films, with the Timaru programme featuring Fuego, Soundscape, Subterranean (tour edit), How Did We Get Here? (tour edit), Eternal Flame, Pioneers: Tandem and Xc Skiing (tour edit).
The tour is the New Zealand Alpine Club’s biggest fundraiser, with proceeds going towards a range of initiatives including buying gear for use on instruction courses, hut maintenance, volunteer development and youth climbing development.
