Venom 3 Star Addresses Sony’s Superhero Movies Underperforming

June 15, 20244 Mins Read

Sony’s Spider-Man Universe will continue with the upcoming release of Venom: The Last Dance. There may be some added pressure for this movie to perform well after Sony’s previous comic book movies underperformed, but Juno Temple has a different way of looking at it.

In the film, Temple plays a new character, joining Tom Hardy as a returning Eddie Brock. She spoke about the movie in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, and it was asked if movies like Mobius and Madame Web underperforming brought some extra pressure to Venom: The Last Dance. Temple explained how she’s not overly concerned about the box office numbers, noting how she’s just hoping that the people who watch the film enjoy her performance, no matter how many of them there are.

“I can honestly say that I’m not programmed to think about it like that,” she said. “It’s quite new for me to be a part of a movie of this size. I’m just hoping that I did the best job I could at a [movie] that was a really amazing thing to be involved in. I hope that whether the five people go to see it or whether 500 go see it, or more, I hope that they enjoy it and it takes them out of their everyday lives for a minute.”

This Will Be the Final Venom Movie

Kelly Marcel directed Venom: The Last Dance. The film will see Tom Hardy returning to play the role for what could be the last time. Sony has confirmed that the film is intended to be the final Venom movie, so as of now, there are no plans to bring back Hardy to lead another film. Maybe that will change if The Last Dance does considerably better than Madame Web. In any case, Temple has appreciated the experience she had working on the project.

“It’s been a wild, wonderful ride,” she said in a previous interview with Variety. “It’s so new to me. It’s a big set! This is crazy. It’s been so much fun and I got to work with such cool people. I’ve been so lucky in my career to just have the most incredible casts. I can’t wait for it to get out into the world. I think it’s going to be a good one.”

On Hardy’s casting, she added, “His relationship to how he feels about Venom and Eddie together… it’s something that feels really close to his heart. It matters to him. I don’t know if anyone else could play Venom. That’s a tough pair of shoes to follow.”

Venom: The Last Dance will be released in theaters on Oct. 25, 2024.
