UNTIL DAWN Reveals Cast For Upcoming Movie Adaptation Of PlayStation Horror

June 16, 20244 Mins Read

Supermassive Games’ interactive drama horror Until Dawn featured a pretty impressive cast for a video game, starring the likes of Rami Malek, Hayden Panettiere, and Jordan Fisher, among others. However, when it comes to the upcoming movie adaptation, it seems that Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions will go with an entirely new cast of actors.

Deadline has revealed the cast for the upcoming adaptation will star Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Ji-young Yoo, and Odessa A’zion. The logline remains under wraps, though it can be assumed that it will at least follow the basic premise of the video game it’s based on. The description for the 2015 video game reads:

Eight friends are trapped together on a remote mountain retreat, and they aren’t alone. Gripped by dread, with tensions running high, they must fight through their fear if they all hope to make it through the night in one piece.

In Until Dawn, you play as each of the eight characters, making key decisions that could mean the difference between life and death. Your actions — whether it be the choices you make or your success (or failure) at key gameplay moments — decide who survives.

The game starred eight characters, but so far only four cast members have been revealed. Assuming the movie sticks with the original number of characters, there should be some additional casting announcements made.

“At PlayStation Productions, we are always looking to find creative and authentic ways to adapt our beloved games that our fans will enjoy,” said Asad Qizilbash, Head of PlayStation Productions, Head of Product for PlayStation Studios, Sony Interactive Entertainment. “Alongside Screen Gems, we’ve assembled a fantastic cast of new characters that builds upon our already stellar filmmaking team and their vision for the adaptation. We’re excited to reveal more about the movie soon.”

Until Dawn is being billed as an R-rated film, which makes sense given the overall premise. It will be directed by David F. Sandberg, a Swedish filmmaker whose previous works include Annabelle: Creation (2017), Shazam!, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Sandberg also has experience directing low budget horror films, including his 2016 directorial debut Lights Out, which was based on his 2013 acclaimed horror short of the same name.

Ella Rubin has been featured in Netflix’s The Chair and Hulu’s The Girl from Plainville. She can also be seen starring opposite Anne Hathaway in Prime Video’s The Idea of You, and in Netflix’s upcoming feature film Fear Street: Prom Queens.

Cimino is best known for his roles as Victor Salazar in Hulu’s Love, Victor and Bob Palmeri in Annabelle Comes Home. He is currently in production with a lead role in Prime Video’s drama Motorheads

Ji-young Yoo is an up-and-coming young actor who starred in Smoking Tigers, for which she was awarded Best Performance in a U.S. Narrative Feature at the 2023 Tribeca Festival. She was also recently nominated for a Gotham TV Award for Outstanding Performance in Limited Series for her work on Prime Video’s six-part limited series Expats from writer-director Lulu Wang.

Rounding out the cast of young stars is Odessa A’zion, known for her roles in the CBS series Fam and the Netflix series Grand Army. Her film resume includes Hellraiser, The Inhabitant, and Sitting in Bars with Cake.
