Whether you’re a fan of high-octane thrillers, futuristic adventures, or heartwarming romances, this weekend at the theaters offers a compelling array of choices to enjoy on the big screen.

The Bikeriders

The Bikeriders is a cinematic journey set in the 1960s, delving into the fictional Chicago outlaw motorcycle club, Vandals MC. Led by the enigmatic Johnny (Tom Hardy), the club undergoes a transformation from local outcasts to a formidable crime syndicate, challenging its founder’s original ideals. The narrative centers on Benny (Austin Butler), the club’s newest member, who grapples with conflicting loyalties between his affection for Kathy (Jodie Comer) and his commitment to the club. Inspired by the photojournalistic work of Danny Lyon chronicling the Chicago Outlaws, the film authentically captures the rebellious spirit of the era. Director Jeff Nichols, influenced by Lyon’s book and after two decades of development, cast real bikers to maintain authenticity, ensuring a gritty and compelling portrayal.

Robot Dreams

Set against the vibrant backdrop of 1980s New York City, Robot Dreams unfolds as a captivating, dialogue-free animated film directed by Pablo Berger. This charming tale features the talents of Ivan Labanda, Albert Trifol Segarra, and Rafa Calvo, and is based on Sara Varon’s beloved 2007 comic. The film has received widespread acclaim, including multiple Academy Award nominations. The story begins with Dog, who leads a solitary life in the East Village until he orders the Amica 2000 robot. Their friendship blossoms through whimsical adventures—jumping subway turnstiles, visiting Woolworths, and rollerblading in Central Park to the tune of “September” on a boombox. Their joy is palpable until a seaside outing at Playland leaves Robot immobilised by rust after frolicking in the water. Despite Dog’s efforts, Robot remains stuck, and as autumn turns to winter, the beach closes for the off-season. Heartbroken but resilient, Dog tries to move on, even attempting to meet someone new.

Ishq Vishk Rebound

The film is a contemporary reinterpretation of the beloved 2003 romantic comedy Ishq Vishk, which introduced Shahid Kapoor to Bollywood. In this new iteration, starring Rohit Saraf, Pashmina Roshan, Jibraan Khan, and Naila Grrewal, the narrative explores the intricacies of modern relationships. The film follows two couples as they confront the challenges of dating in today’s world, navigating through the emotional rollercoaster of breakups and rebounds. With a focus on youthful protagonists, ‘Ishq Vishk Rebound’ promises to capture the essence of contemporary romance while offering a fresh perspective on love and heartbreak in the digital age.

The Exorcism

Step into the chilling world of The Exorcism, where Academy Award-winner Russell Crowe takes on the role of Anthony Miller, a troubled actor teetering on the edge. As Anthony immerses himself in a supernatural horror film, his estranged daughter Lee (Ryan Simpkins) grows increasingly concerned. Is her father reverting to old habits, or is something more sinister at play? With a star-studded cast including Sam Worthington, Chloe Bailey, Adam Goldberg, and David Hyde Pierce, this film promises a thrilling ride through the depths of horror.

Russell Crowe returns to the exorcism genre following his success in the 2023 film ‘The Pope’s Exorcist.’ The Exorcism, written and directed by Joshua John Miller, son of the late Jason Miller of 1973’s ‘The Exorcist’ fame, draws inspiration from his father’s experiences, blending reality with fiction. Crowe’s portrayal of Anthony Miller may parallel his father’s legacy, imbuing the narrative with authenticity.

Ullozhukku (Malayalam)

Christo Tomy makes his directorial debut with Ullozhukku (aka Undercurrent), a poignant drama starring Parvathy Thiruvothu, Urvasi Stan, and Arjun Radhakrishnan. Produced by Ronnie Screwvala, Honey Trehan, and Abhishek Chaubey, this film marks RSVP Movies’ entry into Malayalam cinema. Set in a flooded village in Kerala, the story revolves around Anju, a young Christian woman who is caring for her terminally ill husband while carrying her ex-boyfriend’s child in secret. As the rising waters trap them and unearth buried secrets, Anju confronts a moral dilemma: whether to flee with her lover or confront the lies entangling her marriage. As family truths surface, their unity and resilience face the ultimate test in this gripping narrative of love, betrayal, and redemption.

The film promises an emotionally charged cinematic experience that will captivate audiences with its exploration of complex human relationships against the backdrop of natural disaster.

Pushtaini

Hrithik Roshan presents the directorial debut of acting coach Vinod Rawat with Pushtaini, a poignant drama that explores intimate themes such as father-son relationships, challenges of migration, and the journey of an aspiring actor. Featuring a special cameo by Rajkummar Rao, the film centers around Bhuppi, played by Vinod Rawat himself, a struggling actor who returns to his hometown only to discover his father passed away a year earlier. Set against the backdrop of Rawat’s ancestral village in Uttarakhand, “Pushtaini” follows Bhuppi’s journey of self-discovery and his exploration of the complexities of human emotions. Rawat not only directs but also writes and produces the film.

Jahangir National University

Directed by Vinay Sharma, JNU is a compelling film that centers around Sourabh Sharma, a small-town student who takes a bold stand against anti-national activities at Jahangir National University. Starring Urvashi Rautela, Ravi Kishan, Siddharth Bodke, and Piyush Mishra, the movie delves deep into the turbulent realm of student politics. It explores how a place of higher learning transforms into a battleground for ideological conflicts and power struggles.

As Sourabh Sharma navigates through these complexities, he finds himself drawn to ‘baba’ Akhilesh Pathak for guidance and discovers love with Richa, all the while challenging the dominant leftist ideology prevalent on campus.
