Brandy is set to star opposite Kathryn Hunter in A24’s psychological horror-thriller The Front Room.
The film — directed by Max and Sam Eggers (brothers of director Robert Eggers) — is based on Susan Hill’s 2016 short story of the same name. The plot centers on a pregnant young couple who have to take in an estranged stepmother-in-law who believes she’s possessed by the Holy Spirit.
This will be the Eggers Brothers’ directorial debut and Brandy’s first foray into the horror genre since she played the role of Karla Wilson in 1998’s I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. She’s also set to star in the upcoming Disney+ musical fantasy movie Descendants: The Rise of Red, in which she’s reprising her role of Cinderella. The singer played the Disney character in her film debut back in 1997.
In 2022, Brandy posted a screenshot of a Variety article breaking the Front Room news with the caption: “It’s official! THE FRONT ROOM from The Eggers’ Brothers @a24 Can’t wait for y’all to see this. God you’re Awesome!!!! I trust you with my entire life. Thank you for this amazing opportunity to work with this unbelievable cast, crew, and the studio everyone wants to work with and of course my Eggers fam.”
If Sam and Max are anything like their brother Robert (The Witch and The Lighthouse), their debut should definitely have enough scary moments to go around. Andrew Burnap and Neal Huff will also star in the film.
The singer and actress recently made a cameo alongside Monica in Ariana Grande‘s video for her rendition of their song “The Boys is Mine” and followed it up first thing Friday (June 21) with a remix featuring all three vocalists.
The Front Room is due to hit theaters later this year on September 6.
