Director Michael Sarnoski recently revealed some new details about his upcoming The Death of Robin Hood movie, starring Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer. Best known for directing the horror film Pig, with his latest project, A Quiet Place: Day One currently in theaters, Sarnoski’s dark and gritty Robin Hood movie, produced by A24, is set to start filming in early 2025.
Speaking to Collider to promote A Quiet Place: Day One, Sarnoski revealed how long he has been working on the new Robin Hood movie. The director described the new film as a passion project, and had been working on the movie’s script long before he took on directorial duties on A Quiet Place: Day One. Sarnoski said:
“I wrote that script right before coming onto A Quiet Place. I kind of made a deal with myself where, if I was gonna do a big studio movie, I wanted to make sure I had my smaller passion project in the wings that I could be thinking about. So, I wrote it right before writing this and have just kind of been playing with it in the background.”
Sarnoski also teased the film’s tone. A24 are known for producing obscure and unique movies, but have also begun their move into blockbuster territory. Sarnoski says The Death of Robin Hood will combine large action spectacle with intimate, personal moments. The director explained:
“It’s a little bit of both. It has a sort of different version of the epic Robin that we’re used to, while also a very intimate story that’s going throughout, as well. So, it’ll have a little bit for everyone in that sense.”
What Is Michael Sarnoski’s Robin Hood Movie About?
The Death of Robin Hood was only recently announced, after A24 bought the rights for the film at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The film is scheduled to start filming in February 2025, with some speculating that Sarnoski intends to get the movie released before the 2024/25 awards season. Inspired by Jackman’s portrayal of an aging Wolverine in Logan, the official logline reads:
“Grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder, an aging Robin Hood finds himself gravely injured after a battle he thought would be his last. In the hands of a mysterious woman, he is offered a chance at salvation.”

As early screenings of A Quiet Place: Day One get underway, the horror film’s Rotten Tomatoes score reflects very good reviews from the critics.
Despite being enthused about the concept of an older Robin Hood, Sarnoski revealed he wasn’t sure he’d ever get the movie made. The director only worked on the script because he was passionate about the idea, and wasn’t sure anything would come from it, only realizing after working on A Quiet Place: Day One that he needed to get the new film greenlit. Sarnoski continued:
“Initially, when writing it, I wasn’t sure it was gonna be my next movie, but I knew I wanted to have something I cared about. As I was going through this process, I was like, ‘It’s pretty obvious that it has to be that movie.’ I just kind of fell in love with it more and more. Then, as we brought these incredible actors on, it’s where my heart’s gonna be at for the next year.”
