With the release of director Vivek Athreya’s Saripodhaa Sanivaaram right around the corner, actors Nani and SJ Suryah are busy promoting the vigilante action thriller. While Nani plays the role of Surya, the protagonist, Suryah takes on the role of Dayanand, the antagonistic cop.
Recently, Suryah drew parallels between Saripodhaa Sanivaaram and director Ramesh Sippy’s epic action-adventure film Sholay (1975), penned by Salim–Javed, stating that the upcoming Telugu movie shares some similarities with Sholay, which is often regarded as one of the greatest and most influential Indian films of all time.
Starring Dharmendra, Sanjeev Kumar, Hema Malini, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bhaduri and Amjad Khan in the lead roles, Sholay is often seen as the quintessential masala film, where multiple genres are blended into one work.
Pointing out that his character Dayanand carries shades of Gabbar Singh, the villain played by Amjad Khan in Sholay, SJ Suryah mentioned that the Sholay influence in Saripodhaa Sanivaaram emerged unconsciously from writer-director Vivek Athreya.

“In Sholay, there’s Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan and Amjad Khan. These are the highlight characters: the silent guy, the soft girl, and the mad fellow. The same flavour is there in Saripodhaa Sanivaaram too,” he noted during a recent chat with Galatta Plus.
Also starring Priyanka Mohan, Abhirami, Aditi Balan, P Sai Kumar, and Murali Sharma in key roles, Saripodhaa Sanivaaram is produced by DVV Danayya under DVV Entertainment. The movie’s cinematography is handled by Murali G, with editing by Karthika Srinivas and music composed by Jakes Bejoy.
