Independence Day 2024 saw an array of exciting releases, such as Stree 2 and Thangalaan. The latter is a period action-adventure drama film headlined by Vikram alongside Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan, Daniel Caltagirone, Pasupathy, Hari Krishnan, Arjun Anbudan, and Preeti Karan. According to the Economic Times, the Tamil movie has been mounted on a production budget between Rs 100 and 150 crore. Vikram plays five roles in Thangalaan, including the titular protagonist, Thangalaan Muni, an untamed tribal leader. According to the Times of India and other publicly available data, the actor took home the biggest paycheque of Rs 25 crore for starring in the movie. Malavika Mohanan, as Aarathi, is the sorceress who haunts Thangalaan Muni for his ill deeds. The actress reportedly charged Rs 5 crore for her pivotal role in Thangalaan.
According to the Times of India, Parvathy Thiruvothu, who plays Thangalaan Muni’s wife Gangamma, took home Rs 70 lakh for her performance in Thangalaan. Pasupathy and Daniel Caltagirone, who played Gengupattar and Lord Clement, respectively, were reportedly paid Rs 25 lakh each for the period action-adventure drama movie. According to News18, Sampath Ram, who plays Kaadaiyan’s aide, earned Rs 20 lakh for Thangalaan.
GV Prakash Kumar’s ethereal background score for Thangalaan also received a positive response. According to News18, the music composer took home Rs 3 crore for his valuable contribution to the movie.

At Thangalaan’s success meet in Hyderabad, Vikram announced that a sequel was already in the works. “Pa Ranjith had immense faith in me, which made this film possible. We all believe that Thangalaan deserves a sequel, and we plan to make many more. You all liked it so much,” the actor revealed, as reported by Hindustan Times.
