While the Volver and The Skin I Live In director’s signature use of bold colours is present, there’s absolutely no dialogue in the trailer besides a single scream from Swinton’s character Martha.

The story centres on Ingrid (Moore) and Martha, who were close friends in their youth, when they worked together at the same magazine. They meet again years after losing touch, in strange circumstances.

The trailer shows various scenes, including Martha in a hospital bed with Ingrid by her side, a tension-filled car journey, and a ‘goodbye’ note.

The aforementioned scream comes when Martha is searching for something in a bag, upon returning home with Ingrid.

The film is an adaptation of the 2020 novel What Are You Going Through by Sigrid Nunez.

Earlier this year, Moore appeared in Mary & George, the historical drama about a woman who uses her son’s sex appeal to find favour with the king. Digital Spy gave it four stars in our review.

Looking ahead, Moore will soon appear in the action thriller movie Control. opposite James McAvoy. Meanwhile, Swinton has been cast alongside Colin Farrell in poker movie The Ballad of a Small Player, directed by Oscar-winner Edward Berger (All Quiet on the Western Front)

The Room Next Door will premiere at Venice on September 2. In the UK it will be released in cinemas on October 25. In the USA, it will be released on December 20.
