Ratan Tata had a sharp sense of humour. In a conversation with his ex-girlfriend, Simi Garewal, the visionary businessman made fun at the excessive use of ketchup in Bollywood movies. Here’s what he said.
Ratan Tata passed away on Wednesday, October 9, leaving the entire nation in mourning. As tributes continue to pour in, an old conversation between Ratan Tata and his ex-girlfriend, Simi Garewal, has resurfaced and gone viral. Despite his monumental responsibilities, Tata had a humorous side and often mocked things he didn’t like. Known for his straight-faced demeanour, he revealed in the interview that his way of relieving stress was often as simple as taking his dog for a run. He candidly told Simi, “Most of my unwinding in the last ten, twelve years has been taking my dog for a run or just getting out and having a change of pace”.
When Simi asked Ratan about his taste in Bollywood movies, he joked about the amount of ketchup Hindi cinema uses for a crime scene. He said, “You can’t help but see them on television today.” He humorously added that his Hindi had improved from watching these films, though he criticised the excessive violence and overuse of “ketchup” in Bollywood movies, which amused Simi Garewal. “They’re also violent. I think there’s more ketchup spread in Hindi movies than in all the restaurants in Bombay. I’m very irritating to be around when I watch television. I’m very impatient and watch four or five channels at the same time,” he said.
