Hollywood stalwarts Kate Hudson and Hugh Jackman are set to lead the upcoming movie musical Song Sung Blue, inspired by the true story of a Neil Diamond tribute band. The film, directed and written by Craig Brewer (Hustle and Flow), will be produced by Focus Features and Davis Entertainment.
The story follows two struggling musicians, played by Jackman and Hudson, who come together to form a Neil Diamond tribute band. According to the official synopsis, the film will explore themes of love and resilience, showing that “it’s never too late to find love and follow your dreams.”
Hudson, who recently released her debut album Glorious, will co-star alongside Jackman, a Tony Award-winning actor and Broadway veteran. The film also features a strong supporting cast, including Michael Imperioli, Fisher Stevens, Jim Belushi, and musician King Princess.
Song Sung Blue is based on the 2008 documentary of the same name by Greg Kohs, who serves as an executive producer for the fictional adaptation. The original documentary gained recognition for its heartfelt portrayal of the real-life tribute band, and the new musical promises to bring that story to the big screen with a fresh, joyous spin.
