Hugh Jackman may be the “Greatest Showman,” but now he has a show-woman counterpart: Kate Hudson.

The Tony winner and Broadway staple star will co-lead upcoming movie musical “Song Sung Blue” with Hudson, who recently unveiled her debut album “Glorious.”

The film is based on a true story and follows two down-on-their-luck musicians, played by Jackman and Hudson, who form a joyous Neil Diamond tribute band and “prove it’s never too late to find love and follow your dreams,” per the official logline.

“Hustle and Flow” and “Coming 2 America” director Craig Brewer will write and direct the Focus Features film.

“Song Sung Blue” is based on the 2008 documentary by director Greg Kohs, here an executive producer of the fictional adaptation.

Michael Imperioli, Fisher Stevens, and Jim Belushi co-star alongside Ella Anderson, King Princess, Mustafa Shakir, and Hudson Hilbert Hensley.

John Davis and John Fox are producing the film for Davis Entertainment along with Brewer. Erika Hampson is also executive producing.

Focus developed the project and holds worldwide rights to the film. Universal Pictures International will handle the studio’s international distribution.

Hudson’s filmography has always been music-adjacent, from her breakout film “Almost Famous” to almost starring in “Moulin Rouge!” She even iconically sang “You’re So Vain” in “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” and “Cinema Italiano” in the movie musical “Nine.” Hudson also has voiced her aspiration to portray Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks in a biopic as one of her “bucket list” projects.

“I still believe in that marriage of cinema and music, and some people just do it better than others,” Hudson told IndieWire. “Writing a musical is one of the things I’ve always wanted to do. I’m sure, at some point, I’ll get into that.

The star of dark comedy “Shell” further told IndieWire that she will go on tour for “Glorious” in early 2025 after wrapping “Song Sung Blue.”

Meanwhile, Jackman recently appeared in “Deadpool and Wolverine” and announced a residency at Radio City Music Hall in 2025, titled “Hugh Jackman Live From New York with Love.” The concert will include songs from “The Boy From Oz,” “The Greatest Showman,” and “The Music Man.”

Jackman previously starred in the film adaptation of “Les Misérables” and Broadway revivals of “Oklahoma!” and “Carousel.” He formerly led one-man shows “The Man. The Music. The Show” in 2019 and “Hugh Jackman: Back on Broadway” in 2011.
