WWE veteran, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is one of the busiest men in the entertainment industry. The wrestler-turned-actor has several upcoming slates to his name and he recently teased adding another one with Star Trek director JJ Abrams. The Rock recently shared a photograph with the director and gave subtle details of the upcoming project which has already sparked curiosity among fans.

The Rock teases his new movie with director JJ Abrams
The Rock’s latest movie Red One, directed by Jake Kasdan and starring alongside Chris Evans, J. K. Simmons, and co. is set for a November 15 release. Ahead of the release of the highly anticipated action comedy, The Rock has announced his new movie on social media saying the movie has been planned for years.
“Years in the making — we finally broke bread, we drank, we laughed, we talked life stuff, love stuff, dude stuff, and took our time chopping up our passion for movies and storytelling. Then we raised our glass and toasted to … Yup, this one is gonna be fun. JJ & DJ. From the mind of Zak Penn,” The Rock wrote on X and Instagram sharing a photo of him with the director JJ Abrams.
As The Rock referred to Zak Penn, he could be the main writer of the project who has a series of stunning credits to his name including, Last Action Hero, Behind Enemy Lines, The Incredible Hulk, Ready Player One, and Free Guy.
The Rock did not share more details of the movie. While the mystery project is under wraps, previously industry insider, TheInSneider claimed that it would be an ’80s-inspired throwback. “I’m told it’s “A fantasy film with some ‘Last Starfighter’ vibes,” according to a source who added that it doesn’t take place in space and that it’s decidedly a throwback of sorts. They noted that the script has drawn mixed reception from industry insiders who have read it — but hey, ya can’t please everyone,” TheInSneider said.
The Rock is attached to several upcoming movies including Moana 2; A24’s highly-anticipated, The Smashing Machine; a Moana live-action movie, and Fast X: Part 2.
