Coronation Street fans are only just realising a beloved actor on the soap was once Taylor Swift’s co-star in a huge Hollywood movie. Actor Peter Gunn is best known for playing Brian Packham on the ITV soap – making his debut way back in 2010.

As the hilarious former headmaster, Brian has become a firm favourite with fans. As well as Corrie, Peter has appeared in the likes of Holby City, Doctors and Skins. However, it’s his past role in a huge Hollywood flick that has got plenty of fans talking recently.

What’s more, not only did he star alongside Taylor Swift, but Miley Cyrus as well. In 2009 Peter starred in Hannah Montana: The Movie, the spin-off flick from the Disney Channel series of the same name.

Peter played reporter Oswald Granger in the film – which grossed over $150 million at the box office. His character was desperate to dig up a scoop on pop superstar Hannah, played by Miley Cyrus. He ended up following her to her hometown and discovered her huge secret – she was really just schoolgirl Miley Stewart in a blonde wig.

In 2019, actor Peter spoke out about his role in the Hollywood flick. Appearing on the podcast Sofa Cinema Club, he shared what it was like working with not just Miley – but Taylor Swift too.

Peter confessed: “The weird thing is that I didn’t know who Miley Cyrus was when I was up for the part, and I can remember asking my eight-year-old son, ‘Have you heard of this Miley Cyrus?'”

He then shared how it took him a while to grasp the enormity of the project he was involved in Peter said: “We’re in Nashville, which is her hometown, and I’m thinking yeah she’s a Nashville girl, so she’s going to be popular.

“But then the first week I’m there, in the evening I’m in the hotel room and put the television on and there’s a discussion about what Miley’s done that day. I thought why are they discussing that? Because they did every day.”

He went on: “This was on the local news, and I’m thinking, ‘Flipping hell, she is big isn’t she?’ And then you realise as we’re going around wherever we go, she has security, people just go absolutely berserk.”

Pop superstar Taylor Swift also appeared in the movie in a cameo role. And it turns out Peter got rather chatty with the musician as they were having their make-up done for filming.

He said: “She was on tour and she turned up when we were filming and remember being sat on the makeup bus and she sat next to me and went, ‘Hi, I’m Taylor, and we were just having a chit chat.’ She was telling me about the tour and how she’s come to help Miley.”

What’s more, fans of Peter on Corrie have only just realised he starred in the Hollywood movie. On a Corrie Facebook fan page, one person said: “Curious is this Brian the works in the kabbin In The Hannah Montana Movie,” along with a photo of Peter in the movie.

Someone else added: “Omg it is.” A third chimed in: “All this time and I had no idea.” Another then proclaimed: “Didn’t expect that, I can’t get over it,” along with a laughing emoji.
