When promoting her upcoming film Magpie, Daisy Ridley was asked, naturally, about her Star Wars stint. She was announced to be returning as Rey in a new film a year and a half ago, and cameras are still not rolling. Despite that, she says that she remains excited about the story and teased an update coming soon.
Speaking to Collider‘s Steve Weintraub (via r/StarWarsLeaks), Daisy Ridley commented the following when asked about the new movie.
“Things are evolving. I continue to be very excited. There will be an update soon.”
The script is being written by Steven Knight, who is currently busy shooting his Peaky Blinders movie in the UK. As far as we know, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy remains attached to direct. But what this supposed new update will be, remains to be seen. It could be an additional writer, a director swap, or a new direction of the story. Or it could simply be a production update, where they will now start shooting in a specific time next year.
The new film would be set 15 years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, in a new era dubbed the New Jedi Order. Ever since it was announced, Lucasfilm rushed into production another film from director and co-writer Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian and Grogu, which has been dated for May 22, 2026. Ridley’s project remains in development, with no set release date.
The timing of the aforementioned update also remains unclear. Lucasfilm will likely have to acknowledge the project at Star Wars Celebration Japan, but from Ridley’s words, it may happen before. Disney has its next quarterly earnings report on Nov. 14, but other than announcing generic windows, they don’t usually use these calls to make development updates.

Miguel Fernández is a Spanish student that has movies as his second passion in life. His favorite movie of all time is The Lord of the Rings, but he is also a huge Star Wars fan. However, fantasy movies are not his only cup of tea, as movies from Scorsese, Fincher, Kubrick or Hitchcock have been an obsession for him since he started to understand the language of filmmaking. He is that guy who will watch a black and white movie, just because it is in black and white.
