Gajendra Verma recently interacted with Gaana to talk about his latest album. Into the conversation we asked him to share his views on the changes that have been made in music especially when it comes to Bollywood music. To this, the ‘Tera Ghata; singer said that he doesn’t like how the film music is made. Sharing his thoughts on it, Gajendra Verma said, “I’ll tell you what.. Bollywood movie songs are linked with such stories that normally an independent artist won’t be able to write. For example, on top of my head I can think of the song “Laakh laakh log aake bas jaate hain, iss sheher se dil lagaake fas jaate hain”. The problem with this song is that this song can never be an indie song. Because this song itself has a filmy touch to it. Bollywood’s plus point is that the song has stories in it. Like the song “Kehene ko jashn bahara hai, ishq ye dekh ke hairaan hai”. Because you know that in this song, Akbar was talking to Jodha, so you will always imagine it like that. You can never beat this beauty in indie music. But on the contrary, I just do not like the way film music is made. When it comes to the process of the song, I just don’t happen to like it. There are a lot of mechanics involved in it. There is a “job scenario” in it which I dislike. But I think once you make it big, then it becomes a different scenario. I do not think that someone would say to AR Rahman Sir that you should change this, or this is not right. No one will say to AR Rahman sir to create a song like Yo Yo Honey Singh.”

Gajendra Verma’s favourite Bollywood artists

While talking to us, Gajendra also talked about his favourite Bollywood artists. He said, “KK was my favourite, he still is. I definitely love Shreya Ghoshal. I really like Ash King also. Arijit Singh is definitely in the list.”

What sets Gajendra apart from other singers is his approach to songwriting. His lyrics often deal with universal themes like love, loss, and self-discovery, but they are written in a way that feels fresh and relatable. He has a way of taking complex emotions and expressing them in a way that is both poetic and simple, which allows his songs to connect with a wide range of listeners.
