Since our childhood, we have watched our favourite stars feature in evergreen classics of the Indian film industry, keeping the spirit of Diwali intact in their portrayals. Here is a list of superhit films that captured the essence and beauty of the festival of lights, only in the best of ways. Let’s take a look.

Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham:

Released in 2001, the classic starred an ensemble of Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Kajol, Kareena Kapoor and Jaya Bachchan. SRK’s iconic entry scene is an unforgettable visual for the audience, as Rahul runs to his mother, who is waiting to welcome her son with a puja thali, as the Diwali celebrations continue in the background.

Hum Aapke Hain Koun:

The 1994 blockbuster superhit, starring Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit as the leads, is regarded as one of the best festival films ever made. The delivery of the character named Pooja’s son takes place during the Diwali fest. All the members of the family come together to celebrate the day with the song Dhiktana Dhiktana, vocalised by SP Balasubrahmanyam.

Chachi 420:

The film stars Kamal Haasan in the titular role, which was released in 1997. An important scene in the film features Haasan’s character saving Bharti, who is portrayed by Fatima Sana Shaikh, from the Diwali crackers. The cast also includes Tabu, Amrish Puri and Om Puri.

Vaastav:

Released in 1999, the film stars Sanjay Dutt, Namrata Shirodkar, Mohnish Bahl, Shivaji Satam and Reema Lagoo. The scene when Sanjay’s character Raghu meets his family, is shot in the backdrop of Diwali celebrations. The film is directed and written by Mahesh Manjrekar.

Mohabbatein:

This Aditya Chopra-directorial is regarded as one of the most successful films of Bollywood, beautifully portraying a tragic love story. The cast included names like Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Uday Chopra, Jimmy Shergil and Jugal Hansraj. The song Pairon Mein Bandhan Hai is shot in the Diwali backdrop.
