October 28, 20243 Mins Read

It might be Halloween week, but Netflix is on a festive roll with the first trailer for new British animation That Christmas.

Following trailers for the likes of Hot Frosty and Our Little Secret, the streaming service has given us another early Christmas present with the trailer for the new family movie co-written by the one and only Richard Curtis.

Based on his trio of children’s books, That Christmas is essentially a Love Actually for kids as we follow the intertwined lives of residents of fictional seaside town Wellington-on-Sea, as they try to avoid disaster at Christmas.

You can watch the first trailer for That Christmas above if you’d rather be in the festive spirit this week than the spooky spirit.

That Christmas held its world premiere last month at the BFI London Film Festival, receiving mixed first reviews.

You’ll be able to tell whether the critics were just being as grouchy as Scrooge when the movie lands on Netflix on Wednesday, December 4.

Directed by Simon Otto, That Christmas features an all-star British cast including Jodie Whittaker, Brian Cox, Fiona Shaw, Bill Nighy, Lolly Adefope, Katherine Parkinson, Guz Khan and more.

The movie also features cameos from Dermot O’Leary and Capital Breakfast presenter Jordan North as characters Mr Chop and Mr Hack, respectively, as well as an original song by Ed Sheeran called ‘Under the Tree’.

“The scene that we wrote this song for is so heartbreaking, but so real for many people at Christmas – spending it without the ones they love, for so many reasons,” Sheeran told Tudum.

“I got to work with my older brother on this, which is such a rarity and a gift to work so closely with my only sibling. It felt so good to create something my children would watch, with their uncle, based in the country they live in.”

That Christmas is released on Netflix on December 4.
