Before venturing into acting, this actor studied hotel management and worked as a management trainee at a Mumbai hotel. In his early days, he even stayed at filmmaker Subhash Ghai’s residence. Despite struggling to find roles in Bollywood throughout the 1990s, he eventually landed his big break, only to face a streak of unsuccessful films that hindered his career in the film industry. The television industry came to his rescue and revived his acting career. Yes, we are talking about Ronit Roy. 

Ronit became an overnight sensation with Jaan Tere Naam, however, his spark didn’t last long. He struggled to find mainstream success despite landing roles in numerous films like Army and Kisna. His breakthrough role came in 2002 with the TV show’ Kasauti Zindagii Kay, followed by leading roles in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Adaalat. His versatility as a performer has been showcased across several other platforms. He has made a mark in reality TV shows like Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa and Kitchen Champion and has also appeared as a guest on popular chat shows like Koffee with Karan.

His film career gained momentum in 2010 with the critically acclaimed movie Udaan, where he played a complex and abusive father. This performance earned him widespread recognition and established him as a talented character actor. Since then, Ronit has delivered impressive performances in a range of films, including Student of the Year, 2 States, Kaabil, and Lucknow Central. He has also made a successful transition to web series, with powerful performances in shows like Hostages, Candy, and Kadam, among others.

Beyond acting, Ronit runs a business which provides security solutions to Bollywood production houses and actors. His security agency Ace Security And Protection Agency, has reportedly worked with several high-profile clients in the Bollywood industry, including major production houses like Yash Raj Films, Dharma Productions, and Excel Entertainment. Top actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan have also taken security solutions from him in the past. His security agency offers a range of services, including providing personal bodyguards; and securing film shoots, events, and parties with trained personnel and state-of-the-art equipment and surveillance.

In the latest development, he is the new in-charge of actor Saif Ali Khan’s security after the latter got attacked by an intruder at his house last week.

Ronit Roy’s three-decade career has also seen ups and downs. He has spoken about overcoming alcoholism and faced challenges like a 2011 arrest for rash driving. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he struggled to pay staff but received help from Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, and Karan Johar. He also sparked controversy by highlighting payment issues with producer Vashu Bhagnani.
