Captain America: Brave New World has been criticised for being a familiar retread of previous Marvel movies, but it does have something that marks a first in the MCU‘s history.
The new Captain America movie has a stark black-and-white opening Marvel Studios logo that just states ‘Marvel Studios Presents’, similar to the design of the first trailer which evoked a redacted document.
So what? You might think.
But this means that Captain America: Brave New World is the first-ever MCU movie not to open with the now-iconic Marvel Studios logo and fanfare that mirrors the flipping of comic-book pages.

Other MCU movies have played around with the logo, such as Black Panther: Wakanda Forever removing the music altogether and just featuring footage of Chadwick Boseman as a tribute.
Captain Marvel also adapted the footage in the logo to just feature Stan Lee, while Avengers: Endgame cleverly cut out any of the characters that were snapped in Avengers: Infinity War.
But every MCU movie to date until Captain America: Brave New World had the Marvel Studios logo in some form, right back to Iron Man even if the logo has been adapted since Phase 1.
And sure, we imagine Marvel would rather swap a more positive Rotten Tomatoes score for this particular first, but at least it means Captain America: Brave New World isn’t exactly what we’ve seen before.

We’ll have to wait and see whether this year’s other MCU outings, Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, also decide to mess with the opening logo.
However, one thing we might already have solved about Thunderbolts* is just what that asterisk at the end of the title means.
Captain America: Brave New World is out now in cinemas.
