A pretty little market town in Yorkshire is currently playing host to Hollywood celebs while they shoot a film.

North Yorkshire’s Knaresborough has been used as a filming location for a new Sky Original Christmas film featuring Hollywood stars Kiefer Sutherland, Rebel Wilson and Danny Dyer.

Tinsel Town is about a washed-up Hollywood actor hoping to boost his career by starring in a pantomime in the North of England.

Kelly Young, from Knaresborough’s Chamber of Trade, said she was first alerted to the filming in October with businesses asked to leave up their festive decorations into February.

“We knew it was going to be going on but not at what level,” Ms Young said. “We’ve had some films in the past in Knaresborough that were more low-key.

“This is obviously very high-end, we’ve got Hollywood movie stars and A-listers, so it is getting a little bit exciting. For (the town) to become part of a movie set, I think people will fall in love with it just like we have all our lives.

“The businesses of Knaresborough, the cafes and bars, will hopefully see a return in it, it’s already generated money for businesses.”

Rebel Wilson was spotted in the village and asked how she was enjoying filming in Yorkshire. She said she was “loving it” and joked to journalists that she was “trying to do the accent”.

One of the scenes is set in Knaresborough’s Castle Yard, which is home to Yorkshire Beeswax Candle Company.

Owner Michael Landreth was in his shop when the crew were doing test runs.

He said: “I saw Kiefer do all his trial runs and the cast and crew actually came into my shop.

“The main event took place directly outside of my door, I had to even move my plant pots away so they could do it.”

Another scene featured a group of people dressed as Father Christmas running along the street, leaving several residents unaware of the filming bewildered.

This is not the first time North Yorkshire has featured in a film. Sites near Ripon were used for zombie film 28 Days Later and Levisham was in the most recent Mission: Impossible.

Sky confirmed Tinsel Town would be coming to Sky Cinema at Christmas 2025.
