‘Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story’, which was filmed in Carlisle, the Lakes, and Talkin Tarn, was released on India’s largest streaming platform Hotstar on Tuesday, February 11. 

The film, which stars Kaveri Kapur, daughter of film director Shekar Kapur, and Vardhan Puri, grandson of iconic Indian actor Amrish Puri, features scenes that were filmed at Carlisle Castle and Carlisle Cathedral’s Fratry in 2021. 

(Image: Intro PR) Music for the movie was composed by A. R. Rahman, who has also produced original scores for popular Tamil and Hindi movies plus classics such as Slumdog Millionaire, which won a Golden Globe and two academy awards, and Danny Boyle’s 127 Hours.

The Bollywood movie also features some local extras, including Daisy Robert, a waitress in a scene that was shot at the Fratry.

A spokesperson for the former Carlisle City Council, speaking at the time of filming, said: “We are always keen to support filmmakers and TV producers who want to use Carlisle as a setting.

“We have worked with a number of production companies producing programmes for the BBC, Channel 4, and Channel 5.”

‘Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story’ is the latest Bollywood movie to be filmed in Cumbria and follows a number of other projects that have been staged in the county.

Another film brought to life in Cumbria is Karan Razdan’s ‘Mr Bhatti on Chutti’, which was shot in the Lakes.

The film follows a man who journeys to the Lakes thinking that former president George W Bush wants him there for peace talks, with the audience treated to the hilarity that ensues.

A train journey on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway and aerial adventures at Zip World Windermere form the cornerstone of another Bollywood adventure filmed in Cumbria.

The comedy drama ‘Jhimma 2’, which featured lead actresses Sonalee Kulkarni, Sayali Sanjeev, and Kshitee Jog, was filmed at the popular Cumbrian attractions in 2023.
