Netflix’s ‘The Electric State’ & More

March 14, 20256 Mins Read

This is one of those weeks where there’s almost TOO much great content premiering and it’s a little overwhelming. Not only is Netflix’s debuting one of its biggest original movies of the year, The Electric State, but you can also catch the premieres of some major shows, too: The Wheel of Time season 3 is streaming on Prime Video, Peacock’s new police drama Long Bright River starring Amanda Seyfried arrives on Peacock (you can also catch the final episodes of Yellowstone on Peacock this weekend!). Apple TV+ is dropping a new series, Dope Thief, the horror-comedy The Parenting is premiering on Max, and there’s so much more.

Not sure which new releases to check out? Let us here at Decider help you figure out what to watch this weekend and where to stream it.

New Movies & Shows To Stream This Weekend: The Electric State, The Wheel of Time, Long Bright River + More

Our national obsession with the ’90s continues with the release of Netflix’s The Electric State, the new movie from the Russo Brothers which takes place in a dystopian, robot-filled version of the grunge decade. That movie arrives on Friday. If you’ve been missing The Wheel of Time, the third season of that Prime Video series is back this week; the first three episodes dropped on Thursday and new eps will arrive every Thursday after that. And if you want to binge your way through the weekend, check out Amanda Seyfried as a cop piecing together a drug-fueled mystery in Long Bright River, the entire 8-episode season is available now.

Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt both went heavy on the Sun-In hair lightener (hey, it was what we did back then), for their roles in The Electric State, the new dystopian-action-fantasy movie that’s reportedly one of Netflix’s most expensive projects to date. Brown stars as a young woman who needs to trek across the war-ravaged U.S. in search of her brother, with the help of Pratt’s character and a robot pal. The film was based on the book by Simon Stalenhag, but as you may have already heard, don’t expect a faithful adaptation.

New on Prime Video March 13: The Wheel of Time (Season 3)

The Wheel of Time, based on the books by Robert Jordan, returned for its third season on Thursday with three new episodes. The fantasy series which stars Rosamund Pike, Madeleine Madden, Zoe Robins, and Daniel Henney will also welcome some new faces this season: expect to see Olivia Williams, Shohreh Agdashloo, and Luke Fetherson, among others, in the show.

WHERE TO WATCH THE WHEEL OF TIME

In Long Bright River Amanda Seyfried stars as Mickey, a Philadelphia police officer who patrols a neighborhood that’s been devastated by the opioid crisis. While investigating a series of murders in the neighborhood, Mickey realizes that her missing sister might also be linked to the case. The entire series arrived to Peacock on March 13.
