Here is a guide to all of the scariest, new dinosaurs in Jurassic World Rebirth
Take a trip back to Jurassic Park, but beware of the franchise’s most dangerous dinosaurs yet.
After six movies in the beloved Jurassic Park franchise from 1993’s Jurassic Park to 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion, the fearsome movie series is back with Jurassic World Rebirth. Not only does the newest installment have an ensemble cast including Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey, but it also features new, terrifying dinosaurs, including some mutated ones.
The dinosaurs in hand reside on Ile Saint-Hubert, a research facility used for the original Jurassic Park, where the dinosaurs that were too dangerous for the first location have resided in isolation for years. Now, skilled covert operations expert Zora Bennett (Johansson) leads a team to extract DNA from them which could result in huge medical advances, saving millions of lives.
The film’s director, Gareth Edwards, who also directed Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, told Entertainment Weekly that the film is a love letter to the original Steven Spielberg-helmed Jurassic Park film, especially in the way it finds its human protagonists visiting a dinosaur habitat again.
Before delving back into the world of dinosaurs, here’s a guide to every new dinosaur in Jurassic World Rebirth.
Distortus Rex
Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment
D-Rex in JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH
The distortus Rex is a six-limbed mutated Tyrannosaurus rex that was birthed from an attempt to genetically engineer the original dinosaur, which went terribly wrong. The deformed mutant dinosaur is said to be 26 feet tall, 47 feet long and weigh about 20,000 lbs.
The dinosaur also has two mutated legs, which decrease its mobility, two long arms and two arms which are extremely powerful, akin to a gorilla. Academy Award-nominated visual effects supervisor David Vickery spoke with Empire about the design inspiration for the distortus rex, which serves as the dangerous, primary antagonist of Jurassic World Rebirth.
“It’s as if another animal has been wrapped around the T-Rex,” Vickery said. “Gareth wanted us to feel sorry for it as well as terrified, because its deformities have caused it some pain, and there’s an encumbrance to it.”
In the film, the D-rex’s cage says V 26.7. This label hints that there were over 25 attempts at genetically engineering the animal, as original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp — who also wrote Jurassic World Rebirth — confirmed to Entertainment Weekly.
“Clearly they should have stopped about 20 versions ago because it just got worse and worse and worse,” he said. “I thought somehow they kind of crossbred a sauropod with a predator, like a T-rex, and the head would be gigantic. I liked this six-limbs thing. So that was fun. You just got to make up monsters.”
Mutadon
The mutadon is a hybrid dinosaur said to have been created by scientists on Ile Saint-Hubert during dinosaur experimentation. The animal is a combination of a raptor and pterosaur — the type of dinosaur pterodactyls descend from — and comes in at 16 feet long, 550 lbs. and over six feet tall.
The dinosaur almost looks like a raptor that can fly with thin wings and translucent skin that make its skeleton almost visible. Koepp told Empire that the idea for the dinosaur originated from previous installments in the franchise and may be more terrifying than what fans are used to.
“We saw in some of the previous Jurassic World movies that their experiments made dinosaurs bigger, meaner, scarier, and it occurred to me and Steven [Spielberg] that those can’t all have gone well,” he said.
Aquilops

Scarlett Johansson as skilled covert operations expert Zora Bennett and Jonathan Bailey as paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis in JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH, directed by Gareth Edwards.
The aquilops is a new dinosaur in the Jurassic World Rebirth movie, which is a relatively small, horned herbivore related to the triceratops. In the film, an aquilops named Dolores also develops a love of licorice after Isabella Delgado (Audrina Miranda) feeds it to her.
Rupert Friend, who plays Martin Krebs in the film, suggested that the cheeky, tiny aquilops may become the fan favorite dinosaur.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if the Aquilops is everyone’s favorite character in the film,” Friend said in the Jurassic World Rebirth production notes. “It’s probably mine.”
Titanosaurus
Universal Pictures
Titanosaurus
The titanosaurus is a giraffe-like, long-necked dinosaur not unlike the brachiosaurus in Jurassic Park, just much bigger. The titanosaurus not only has a long neck, but a lengthy whip-like tail and is five times larger than an elephant.
“The Titanosaurus is one of the biggest sauropods ever seen,” the film’s production notes read. “This massive herbivore from the Late Cretaceous period, whose name aptly means Titanic lizard, is around 50 feet tall, 70 feet long, weighed more than 30 tons and had legs the size of Redwoods, each measuring about eight feet in circumference.”
Anurognathus
The Anurognathus is more of a background dinosaur in Jurassic World Rebirth on Ile Saint-Hubert. However, with its ability to take flight and its distinct color palette, this dino is hard to miss.
The movie’s production notes read, “With an estimated wingspan of 20 inches, a three-feet-and-five-inch-long body and a feather weight of only .088 pounds, this tiny pterosaur from the Late Jurassic makes a big impression with its bright green color and dark eyes slightly resembling a tree frog.”
