It looks like My Little Pony might be set to follow in the footsteps of fellow 80s Hasbro toy lines Transformers and G.I. Joe by heading to the big screen for a live-action adaptation, however on earth that might be possible…
As reported by Variety, Hasbro Entertainment is teaming with Amazon MGM Studios for a live-action movie based upon the iconic property, although the project is said to be in its earliest stages and is yet to appoint a writer or director. As such, there’s naturally no plot details or specific information at this point.
Launching in 1981 as My Pretty Pony before a revamp the following year, My Little Pony is one of the most iconic toy brands of the 1980s; it spawned the syndicated animated series of the same name, along with 1986’s theatrical film My Little Pony: The Movie. The franchise later gained a new lease of life – and a new male fandom known as ‘bronies’ – with the 2010 reboot My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
My Little Pony joins a growing slate of projects for Hasbro, which includes a Magic: The Gathering live-action film and TV universe with Legendary, an animated Magic: The Gathering series for Netflix, and a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series for the streamer.
