Lou (2022)
There are actors you’d expect to see starring in action movies, and then there’s Oscar-winner Allison Janney, who made the leap to the action genre in Lou, a quick-paced thriller about a woman (Jurnee Smollett) who recruits her mysterious next-door neighbor Lou (Janney) when her daughter is abducted by her ruthless ex.
The Adam Project (2022)
The Adam Project is a family-friendly action movie starring Ryan Reynolds as a man who goes back in time and teams up with his 12-year-old self (Walker Scobell) to stop the invention of time travel that has corrupted the future. The action is undeniably fun, but the real treat is seeing Mark Ruffalo and Jennifer Garner have a mini 13 Going on 30 reunion.
RRR (2022)
From Indian director S.S. Rajamouli, RRR is an action epic that takes place during the British occupation in 1920 and follows the stories of two men, Bheem (N.T. Rama Rao Jr.) and Raju (Ram Charan), who find themselves on opposite sides of the occupation. There’s more to the plot of the 3-hour movie, but all you really need to know is that it’s a one-of-a-kind film that features fight scenes with tigers and a show-stopping musical number. What more could you ask for?

The Woman King (2022)
Viola Davis stars in The Woman King, a film inspired by the Agojie, an all-female team of warriors that fought to protect Dahomey in the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. Davis leads a team of fighters, including Thuso Mbedu and Lashana Lynch, to protect their people from slavers.
Dune (2021)
The newest adaptation of the science fiction classic stars Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, son of Duke Atreides (Oscar Isaac), who must fight for survival in the harsh desert planet Arrakis after his family is attacked. If that’s not enough to spark your interest, I have four words for you: Zendaya and sand worms.
The Dark Knight (2008)
Arguably one of the best comic book movies ever made, The Dark Knight is the second in director Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, and will forever be remembered as the film that gave us Heath Ledger’s most daring and disturbing performance.

Snowpiercer (2014)
Bong Joon Ho co-wrote and directed this dystopian action movie about a man, Curtis Everett (Chris Evans), who lives in a world where an ice age has forced all remaining humans to live on a high-speed train, where not all are created equal. Curtis lives with the poorest in the back of the train and inspires a rebellion to journey to the front, only to find that things aren’t as they seem.
Bullet Train (2022)
This 2022 action-comedy stars Brad Pitt, Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Brian Tyree Henry and is based on a 2010 novel titled Maria Beetle. The film follows a man who boards (you guessed it) a bullet train in search of his missing son, guided by his handler and obstructed by two English assassins.
Gladiator (2000)
This historical drama from 2000 stars Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix as Roman general Maximus Meridius and Commodus, the son of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. For audiences who love legacy film and ancient history, Gladiator is for you. If this one sounds familiar, it’s the source material for the social media favorite quote, “Are you not entertained?”

Okja (2017)
If you’re a Parasite fan, here’s another Bong Joon-ho masterpiece for you. Okja centers around a dystopian future in which corporations create genetically modified “super pigs” as a solution to global food shortage. The film follows a young girl who raises one of these super pigs as her own pet, embarking on an adventure to save the pig after is is abducted by the government.

Set in Las Vegas, this wild heist film revolves around a group of mercenaries who decide to take advantage of the chaos amid a zombie outbreak and rob a major casino.
Army of Thieves (2021)
And if ya loved Army of the Dead, then you’ve gotta watch the prequel, which takes place six years before the events of the original and follows Ludwig Dieter during the beginning stages of the zombie outbreak.
Red Notice (2021)
Full disclosure: Netflix’s most popular movie ever—which follows FBI’s top profiler as he attempts to capture two rival criminals—wasn’t exactly a critical darling. But, IMO, it’s worth watching for the cast alone (especially since there’s a sequel on the way).
