Ayo Edebiri, The Bear star, is set to pen the screenplay for the upcoming live-action Barney film, reported Variety. She is also in talks to star in the movie.

Plot details of the film are kept under wraps. Barney will be co-produced by A24 and Daniel Kaluuya’s 59% Productions in association with Barney IP owner Mattel Films. Robbie Brenner will don the role of the producer for Mattel Films with A24, according to Variety.

Daniel Kaluuya and Rowan Riley will produce for 59% Productions. Kaluuya is the lead producer of the film, yet he won’t be starring opposite Edebiri.

Barney& Friends, which premiered in 1998, aired for 14 seasons on PBS, before concluding on November 2010. The live-action Barney movie was first announced in 2019.

Edebiri is best known for her role in FX’s The Bear. She recently voiced Envy in Inside Out 2 from Pixar. The actor will next feature in After the Hunt, directed by Luca Guadagnino. The film also star Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield.
