Ben Affleck has had a long and varied career in Hollywood, but he believes that his “best work” is in a surprising action movie that is available to stream on Disney+.
Ben Affleck has branded an “insane” action flick as his “best work”, but it’s not because of his acting.
The 52-year-old actor’s career in the industry started to skyrocket after bagging an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Good Will Hunting.
Affleck, however, reserves special praise for an unexpected film available on Disney+, trumpeting it as his pinnacle achievement.
In a candid chat with The Criterion concerning his all-time favourite movies, he discussed the 1998 sci-fi action spectacle Armageddon, where he starred as oil driller AJ Frost.
Despite sharing the screen with legends such as Bruce Willis, Billy Bob Thornton, Owen Wilson, and Steve Buscemi, Affleck attributes his standout moment not to his on-screen antics but to the notorious DVD commentary he recorded, dissecting the movie’s plot holes.
Disney+ membership

Disney+ now costs as little as £4.99 a month, but members can get 12 months for the price of 10 by paying for a year upfront on the ad-free Standard or Premium plans.
Disney+ is the only place to stream hit shows like Rivals, The Bear and Shōgun, plus blockbuster franchises like Star Wars and Marvel.

He said: “I didn’t think of it as that kind of movie [a classic] when we did it.
“And in retrospect now, I feel like maybe my best work in my career is the commentary on this disc.
“People approach me to talk about the commentary on this disc as much as they do movies that I’ve been in.”
“And it’s because I didn’t know any better than to be really honest.”
He continued: “But I won’t spoil it for those of you who are interested.
“It is an achievement that I’m proud of and didn’t intend to be as good as I now think it is at the time.”
Looking ahead to 2025, the acclaimed actor has several exciting projects lined up. He’s set to star in a thriller called Animals alongside Gillian Anderson of Sex Education fame, and Kerry Washington from Scandal.
On top of that, Affleck is diving into an adaptation of Agatha Christie’s classic Witness For The Prosecution and a crime drama that promises to bring him back together with his Good Will Hunting partner, Matt Damon.
Armageddon is available to watch on Disney+.
