Elden Ring live-action movie in the works from A24 and Alex Garland

May 22, 20252 Mins Read

Bandai Namco Entertainment and A24 today announced that an Elden Ring live-action movie is in development, and it will be helmed by Alex Garland.

While there have been many rumors about a movie adaptation, it’s good that the project is finally confirmed. It’s also nice to see that A24 tapped Alex Garland to write and direct this film. After all, Garland has directed many notable films over the years, including Ex Machina, Civil War, and the recently released Warfare.

Joining Garland are Peter Rice, alongside Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich from DNA as producers. Also onboard as producers are Vince Gerardis and George R. R. Martin.

Given that the film’s development was only announced today, it’s likely that we’ll need to wait a bit longer for more details. We are interested to see who will join the film’s cast. Moreover, fans are no doubt curious about what exactly the movie’s story will be.

Much like other FromSoftware Souls games, Elden Ring isn’t exactly a cinematic, story-driven action game. Thus, simply adapting the story of the game likely won’t work.

If you ask us, we think that the Elden Ring live-action film will likely be a prequel that’s set before the Shattering. In this case, we would likely see Marika’s family become the main characters. Based on the snippets of the Elden Ring story pre-Shattering, there’s a lot of potential for political intrigue within the family, so we might even see some Game of Thrones-level plotting (the game’s lore was made by GRRM, after all).

Of course, there’s also a chance that the movie introduces completely new characters. We’ll have to wait and see until more story details are revealed.

This is not the only video game adaptation that’s in the works over at A24. There’s also the Death Stranding live-action movie project, though there hasn’t been any new updates about that recently.
