Halle Berry believes in full physical commitment to the role. The actress shared she’s broken at least 10 bones as a result of her action movie roles, as well as being “knocked out” three times.
“Arm broken, broke ribs twice — two ribs one time, three ribs another — broke tailbone, broke two toes and [my middle] finger,” Berry said during a Netflix interview with her The Union co-star, Mark Wahlberg.
When added up, the list amounts to 10 broken bones in total. The Monsters Ball star also shared she’s “been knocked out three times.”
Wahlberg’s inventory of injuries was less dramatic but still impressive: “Torn meniscus, separated shoulder, ego bruised quite a few times,” the actor quipped.
Elsewhere in the interview, Berry also talked about her experience playing a free diver in 2012’s Dark Tide.
“I had to hold my breath for almost two and a half minutes,” she said. “That felt like eternity.”
The list of physical feats finished with her memories of playing X-Men‘s Storm, in which she said she spent long periods of time tied to a wire up in the air. “Storm was always in the sky,” she said. “It felt like the guy had gone to lunch, that’s how long I was up there.”
The Union stars Berry as Roxanne, a secret agent who recruits her high school sweetheart, Mike (Wahlberg) to join her in a high-stakes intelligence mission. The film releases on Netflix Aug. 16.
