Henry Cavill‘s ’80s action remake has received an exciting update.
Directed by Chad Stahelski, the Highlander reboot will see Cavill playing Connor MacLeod, an immortal Scottish swordsman who must battle other immortals to obtain a coveted power.
The project has been in the works for over a decade, with Stahelski taking the helm in 2016. The director has now provided a promising update on the movie’s production.
“We’re in active prep right now. We plan to be shooting by mid September, starting off in London,” he said in a recent interview with Deadline, adding: “I hope it’s good.”
Though this is positive news for Highlander fans, it isn’t the first time filming schedules have been shared.

In 2023, it was revealed that production on the movie was scheduled to begin the following year. But this plan was delayed and Stahelski later shared that filming would be taking place in January 2025.
“We start shooting in January in Scotland – that’s why I go right after I leave,” he told Collider last July. “I go to Scotland on Monday to do the final location scout.”

The 1986 original Highlander starred Christopher Lambert in the lead role, alongside Sean Connery and Clancy Brown. Following the movie’s success, Highlander received four more movies as well as a TV series, an animated follow-up, and several books and video games.
Previously discussing his love for the movie and how it will inspire his remake, Stahelski told Digital Spy: “I love the original, I know it’s dated in certain ways, but I love the vibe and the mythology.
“So, my take on it would be to somehow maintain the vibe and mythology and feeling of the first movie, not go off the rails with too much plot, and really develop the world of the immortals.
“I don’t care what the mortals are doing, I want to be invested in the immortal world and hold true to the original as much as I can.”
There is currently no release date for Highlander.
