Netflix has just added a ‘must see’ action film that is being dubbed as ‘like a modern day Die Hard’.
The 2024 release Aftermath has just been included on the streaming platform’s library from today (February 10). The film features former child star Dylan Sprouse, known for his previous roles on sitcom Friends and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody alongside his twin brother Cole. It was directed by Patrick Lussier, who has previously helmed horror titles Play Dead and Trick as well as serving as a writer for Terminator Genysis.
In Aftermath, Sprouse stars as a returning war veteran, stricken with PTSD who finds himself trapped with his teenage sister on Boston’s Tobin Memorial Bridge as a heavily weaponized group of ex-military revolutionists takes everyone hostage. The premise has attracted plenty of comparisons from film fans to classic action films such as those in the Die Hard franchise, and movies from the 1990s starring Sylvester Stallone.

The film has not yet received enough critical reviews to clock up an official score on website Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing, however plenty of viewers have shared their opinion online. One person who has already seen the film, simply declared: “Dylan Sprouse. OMG! HE WAS AWESOME. This is a must see movie. Love it.”
While another posted: “A decent action thriller although not quite an original movie. The acting for the most part, especially from the main protagonist and the antagonist keeps it going nicely and 95% of the action scenes are decent. My favourite being the finale hand to hand combat, very real and well thought out and executed choreography.”
They continued: “This would be like a modern Die Hard movie, gladly not too modernised such as with technology. A very simple premise as well. It was certainly good enough for me to search other movies staring Dylan Sprouse.”
The film has drawn some criticism, with some viewers claiming that the story of armed men taking over a bridge is ‘nonsensical’ while others have questioned the low budget approach of the production. However, many point out that it is an enjoyable ‘popcorn flick’ and advise potential viewers that it is an ideal title to help decompress.
One person added: “All the reviews slating this movie are a bit harsh. When you watch this movie you don’t have to think too deeply. It’s just a bit of fun action movie in the Die Hard genre with a Ryan Reynolds lookalike actor as the good guy. Ok there is not much time spent to get to know the characters but if you get past this and just enjoy the tongue in cheek action you can’t go far wrong with an evening entertainment. It’s reminiscent of a John Woo movie with action virtually from start to finish. I’ve given it seven stars which is probably a bit generous but I went away with a good feeling I’d been entertained and after all that’s what an action film is all about.”
Another claimed: “Maybe it is old fashioned using a storyline similar to Die Hard. Well at least Dylan Sprouse is better looking than Bruce Willis. As for the story is making sense or not, it’s a popcorn movie, what do you expect? If you want something realistic, just watch National geographic! I can guarantee you, the story makes more sense than any one of the Marvel movies.”
Aftermath is streaming on Netflix.
