EXCLUSIVE: Bollywood star Rani Mukerji is still on course to return for a third film in the popular Hindi action franchise, Mardaani.
Producer Yash Raj this morning confirmed the news and released a short clip teasing the next chapter and celebrating the franchise. The update comes on the tenth anniversary of the first film in the cop series.
Plot and production details of the third film are being kept under wraps and the project is currently untitled.
Mardaani 2, released in 2019 was written and directed by Gopi Puthran and produced by Yash Raj. Mukerji reprised her role of police officer Shivani Shivaji Roy from the previous film. The second film follows Roy’s attempts to catch a 21-year-old rapist and murderer, played by Vishal Jethwa.
The franchise has had critical and commercial success to date and lead Mukerji has been discussed as a trailblazer for her role leading a Hindi action film.
A third installment was discussed as a possibility back in 2019 but things had gone quieter in recent years.
Mukerji, the recipient of eight Filmfare Awards, last year starred in Netflix film Mrs. Chatterjee vs. Norway.
