Magizh Thirumeni’s recently released action thriller film ‘Vidaamuyarchi’ starring Ajith in lead is minting decent numbers at the box office despite mixed reviews.
According to the Sacnilk website, ‘Vidaamuyarchi’ has collected Rs 120.25 crores worldwide in just 8 days and the India net collections stand at Rs 72.21 crores. The Ajith starrer made an India gross of Rs 84.6 crores in the same period and the film has also worked well abroad with Rs 35.65 crores in the kitty from overseas.
Reportedly the Tamil net box office collections of the Ajith starrer stand at Rs 70.26 crore and the early estimates say that the action flick has minted Rs 1.16 crore on day 8. The ‘Breakdown’ Tamil remake opened with a decent Rs 25.5 crores on day 1 in Tamil Nadu.
‘Vidaamuyarchi’ made Rs 1.95 crores from the Telugu region in 8 days with the early estimates reporting the day 8 collections to be at 5 lakhs which is underwhelming.
ETimes gave a rating of 2.5 out of 5 for ‘Vidaamuyarchi’ and our review reads, “Vidaamuyarchi starts off very slow, with Sawadeeka song — which starts as soon as the movie begins — being the only high point in the slow and dull first half, which covers the couple’s relationship drama, flashback sequences and the incidents that lead to Kayal’s kidnap. It reaches an interesting point at the interval, only to be bogged down by a quick revelation about the antagonists. Had director Magizh Thirumeni placed this part towards the climax, the film would have become an intriguing thriller. The revelation ends up being a spoiler for the supposedly thrilling second half, making it very predictable. The half-hour leading up to the interval also feels repetitive. The film comes together in the last one hour, but the closure is utterly disappointing as it feels like a convenient wrap up.”
Directed by Magizh Thirumeni, ‘Vidaamuyarchi’ is an action flick and stars Ajith Kumar, Trisha, Arjun Sarja, and Regina Cassandra in the lead.
