Gone are the days of tense, survival horror and this reboot is leaning into comedy, starring the dynamic duo of Jack Black and Paul Rudd.
In the world of bizarre movie promotions, Sony’s upcoming Anaconda reboot might just take the cake. The film, scheduled for release on December 25, is already causing quite a stir with its unconventional approach to the classic franchise. Gone are the days of tense, survival horror and this reboot is leaning into comedy, starring the dynamic duo of Jack Black and Paul Rudd. To make the big reveal, Jack Black took the task and performed a wild Tenacious D-inspired song in a video that releases the main cast in the most Jack Black way possible. Joining him on this oddball adventure are Thandiwe Newton (Westworld), Steve Zahn (Silo, Joy Ride), Brazilian actor Selton Mello and Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad, Road House).
And the surprises don’t stop there—Say Anything’s Ione Skye has also reportedly been confirmed to be part of this wild ride.

Anaconda’s return to the big screen takes a quirky turn this time. A group of friends, all grappling with mid-life crises, set out to remake their favourite childhood movie. What starts as a nostalgic project quickly takes a deadly twist when they find themselves deep in the rainforest, battling not only gigantic snakes but also violent criminals and natural disasters. It’s a fight for survival that seems like it was ripped straight out of a fever dream, reveals Comicbook.
Tom Gormican, the writer-director behind The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, is calling the shots here. Fans of the original 1997 Anaconda film, which was directed by Luis Llosa, will remember its iconic ensemble cast, featuring Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, Eric Stoltz, Owen Wilson and Danny Trejo. The plot of that film was a tense thriller, where a film crew is taken hostage by a deranged hunter, who forces them to accompany him in search of the world’s deadliest snake.
The original movie, which spawned a few sequels from 2004 to 2009, even led to a crossover with the Lake Placid franchise in 2015. The upcoming reboot promises to throw all the conventions out the window, with a fresh, hilarious take on the Anaconda saga.
