The Garfield Movie is ringing in Monday — Garfield’s least favorite day — with a new action-packed trailer.
While the first trailer shared the wholesome story of how Garfield (voiced by Chris Pratt) entered Jon’s (voiced by Nicholas Hoult) life, the latest preview gets to Garfield’s unexpected reunion with his biological dad, Vic (voiced by Samuel L. Jackson).
Garfield’s life at home with Jon and Odie is “pretty near perfect” — that is, until he’s kidnapped by a massive pitbull and sent to Vic’s whereabouts. Vic enlists the help of Garfield and Odie, never mind that he hasn’t been there for his son since he was a kitten.
“I haven’t seen you for years and when I do, you’re on the run from a deranged cat,” Garfield points out. But he eventually agrees to help Vic out, with an adventure unlike anything the lasagna-loving cat has experienced. He jumps off moving trains, nearly plummets to his demise until he’s saved by a hunk of cheddar and sets out to battle villains.
This trailer also reveals a surprise voice: Snoop Dogg as Snoop Catt. Hannah Waddingham takes on the role of the villain, who made her debut in the latest trailer, but no details about the character have been shared yet.
In addition to the above cast, Harvey Guillén provides voice effects for Odie, Garfield’s canine companion. Other voice actors in the movie include Bowen Yang, Cecily Strong, Brett Goldstein and Ving Rhames.
The movie, made by Columbia Pictures and Alcon Entertainment, was directed by Mark Dindal (Cats Don’t Dance, The Emperor’s New Groove) and written by Paul A. Kaplan, Mark Torgove and David Reynolds.
The Garfield Movie hits theaters on May 24, 2024.
